Numbering in Legal Documents

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software provides hard-coded values for UDC 74/NC. If you select the legal document type L (legal document type) during setup, you must specify additional information for the legal document type. The values are as follows: Legal documents have very specific requirements for line numbering in the left margin, line spacing, and visible double lines that separate body numbers. For example, California state courts require submissions to use double-spaced lines, a 12-point font size, and line numbers in the left margin. Please note that in a folder, the numbers are always reset with each subdocument. It is currently not possible to maintain a title level of its numbering in subdocuments. You use the Next Legal Document Number tool (P7400001) to configure different Next numbering schemes for each type of legal document. For example, you can configure a following numbering scheme for standard invoices and another subsequent numbering scheme for VAT invoices. For legal documents that you print from the JD Edwards Edwards sales order management system, you must configure the appropriate versions of legal documents in the country-specific programs for legal documents and the Print Invoices program (R42565). A corresponding version is a version with the same name. You configure the appropriate versions and perform the steps to configure legal numbering and assign print templates to legal document types. Enter the address book number of the company issuing the legal document.

Personally, a good file numbering system is very useful when I check the list of active cases to check the status of each. Being able to go through the list and know the basics of each case only from the numbering system really speeds things up. And while I`m only one, if you have multiple lawyers and staff working on cases, it will pay off exponentially when it`s time for group sessions to review cases. You use the Legal Document Types session to create legal document types, and then use the Legal Document/Document Type Relationship session (P7400003) to create relationships between legal document types and internal document types.
